The Moral Decay of the Republican Party

The moral decay of this country is nothing compared to the moral decay of the Republican Party. While Republicans decry the seeming lack of morality by pointing to a loss of religious fervor in the general population, they line their pockets with blood money from con men, sexual harassers, and outright traitors to our beloved country.  At every turn they choose party and political expediency over honesty and the rule of law.

While some may say Democrat politicians are just as bad, I disagree. The Democratic base will not accept that kind of behavior from their leaders. I mourn the loss of vibrant religious communities where whole families attended weekly, but I’m heartened by the honesty, morality, and compassion I see every day.

Democrats value knowledge, education, honesty, the rule of law, ethical behavior, and compassion for all.  In my mind these are religious values taught by the worlds great religions.  Republicans seem to value personal advancement over the betterment of the community and a win at all costs mentality.

Enemies of our republic envied and hated the strength and vitality of our country but recognized the arc of history was moving in our direction. Our strength was a threat to their thirst for power, but they could not combat it with conventional means. They developed a long-term plan to divide through deceit and all it would take to succeed was money and people who would put personal greed above honesty and love of country.

The attack was simple, first attack the education system knowing an educated populace was our strongest defense.  Next, they created and sustain a media organization that disseminates half truths and lies under the guise of opinion regarding divisive issues. The unexpected growth of social media multiplied their power to spread misinformation and they continue to thrive creating distrust of civil society.

The battle is not over, and the outcome is in doubt. It saddens me to think my children and grandchildren may live in a world where neighbor is pitted against neighbor instead of one where every life is valued. We need two strong political parties to challenge each other’s ideas and provide necessary checks and balances, but they must put honesty, the rule of law, and ethical behavior above simply winning.

We cannot simply rely on our leaders to win this battle.  It will take each of us to stand up and say “this is not acceptable” when challenged by improper and possibly traitorous behavior.
